Here is a link to the WDS page that has the PzC patch's/updates on, you download the update for the appropriate title and then unzip it to that title folder, it will ask if you ant to overwrite the existing files and you click "yes to all"

Now that I found this page I see it says you can only update from version 4.04, the recent newsletter said 4.04 or newer, I'll assume the update page is correct.

Ah, yes, that text is a bit confusing. It means a base version of 4.04 or later for any 4.05.x updates. If your last full install was for a version pre-4.04, it wouldn't work (properly). 

As we've played tournament games for all FWWC titles thus far and you used the current version at the time, you should be able to update normally without needing a clean install.

I have done both patches and clean installs for WDS games and never has the Saves folder in any game folder been overwritten losing the contents of saved games.
However, if your wearing a tin foil hat, it should be a wise precaution to make a copy of your saved games folder before any update.

If the OOB or the scenario has been changed, the new files might not be compatible with old saved games, if that's what you mean Almskaar.

Strela mentioned implementing a branching OOB to account for OOB changes for Poland '39, which sounds like how strategy choices are implemented.
