Socialist and pacifist Jean Léon Jaurès assassinated at the Café Le Croissant, 146 rue Montmartre, Paris. (It's still there).

Germany declares Kriegsgefahrzustand, (imminent danger of war) and demand the French “temporarily” cede Toul and Verdun if they want to stay out of it. (Talk about Chutzpah).

Belgian mobilization decreed for August 1.

Turkey declares mobilization.
