More or less a supression weapon, yeah, and quite valuable in that role, particularly supressing HMGs.

Two Russian 50mm, with their high ammo supply, will usually take out a gun or opposition mortar given time.

I'm using the 50mm mortars to great effectiveness in a current match, even managed to light a building on fire after 2 or 3 rounds of constant firing

I have use small mortars to button up tanks so other troops can get near the tanks. Works ok for that. Open top targets move out when mortar rounds start falling too.
