RE: Atheory's Project: PzB-Normandy Campaign - Ocito80 - 08-17-2020

Well, I never see an error pop up until I load a file. That means I already previously saved it. No backups. I chalk it up to impatience. Like I said, I have to review my process. But where there is failure, there is also growth.

RE: Atheory's Project: PzB-Normandy Campaign - Ocito80 - 08-18-2020

I managed to trace back to two mistakes that led to the setback. With that said, I'm progressing forward with a renewed perspective. The OOB is already reworked, with even more excess units of no importance trimmed away. How I was handling the WN units has been tweaked a little. I've begun placing the Allied units by reverse engineering the stock beach landing scenarios, and will expand from there.

RE: Atheory's Project: PzB-Normandy Campaign - Ocito80 - 08-20-2020

Just a little update - All 5 beaches have the june 6 initial waves scheduled. The allied airborne divisions are placed, as are most relevant German Wn. The Wn have been tweaked in what I hope will add just a pinch more flavor.

I don't really know the time allied units landed ashore after june 6. The date is easy enough, but did they arrive morning, evening, midnight etc.etc. is a bit trickier. So from here on out that will be just guess work. I will use PzC Normandy scenario to help with this process. While I come up with a game plan for the rest of the allied units, I will start placing the Axis Units.

RE: Atheory's Project: PzB-Normandy Campaign - Ocito80 - 08-23-2020

Update Time - 99% of axis units that start on the map have been placed. I fell down the rabbit hole of trying to uncover more information about the cherbourg landfront. However, specifics regarding individual positions are difficult to find. Only around 10% of the positions have I been able to find usable information on. One thing I was able to deduce, not all positions included some type of Anti-tank gun.

75% of german reinforcements have been scheduled thus far.

Party on wayne, party on garth!

Sadly, it doesn't look like the mega-scenario is possible. As the scenario file size reaches around 267kb, what looks like a memory issue arises, making the ability to navigate around pbedit impossible.

Let me have a look. I have never run into a memory issue to date. I’ll see how large I can go to.

I've included my current scenario to assist with troubleshooting

RE: Atheory's Project: PzB-Normandy Campaign - berto - 08-25-2020

When I load your PBNormandy_Campaign_New.oob into pboob.exe, I get this error:
[attachment=4932]

Confirmed in the Logs/error.log file:

rober@B10Trto /cygdrive/r/Temp/Logs
$ cat error.log
2020-08-24 20:51:31 pboob.exe: [ERROR ID 1000] (Window.cpp, line 259, XCWindow::ReadFile()) C:\Games\John Tiller Software\Battles of Normandy\Data\PBNormandy_Campaign_New.oob file data error, at or before line 1059

This is more or less the identical error I get when I try loading up the scenario in pbedit.exe.  Both errors point to line 1059 in the PBNormandy_Campaign_New.oob file.

Inspecting the PBNormandy_Campaign_New.oob file:

For some reason I have been unable to determine, the data reads go bad at the line

P. 32730 4 1./Füs-Btl 185, MG gruppe (RAD)

Quick suggestion:  Should the all-caps 'RAD' perhaps be lower-case 'rad'?  (Maybe it doesn't matter.  I don't know the system, or your data, well enough to say for sure.)  Or?

Are these helpful clues?

RE: Atheory's Project: PzB-Normandy Campaign - Ocito80 - 08-25-2020

Berto, did you place the oob file in the data folder? I want to say you didn't, because the 185 fus btl is the first unit to have the MG gruppe unit which is why you got that location error first.

Yes, I believe so.

The PBNormandy_Campaign_New.oob file that I placed in the game Data folder I got from the .zip file you posted.
