Best Game for Prussia ? - Don Czirr - 05-26-2016

Hi All,

What's the best game in the series if your interested in heavy Prussian involvement in the battles?

Jena, 1814, Waterloo ?

Which of them (or others) did you like best as a Prussian player?

Thanks

Well there are the three you named but don't forget Leipzig or Bautzen.  My favorite would be Leipzig but I have a soft spot for 1814 as I was a playtester for it.

Wow - 400 scenario variations for those 2 - I think it may come down to a coin flip - as both look great.

I think I recall seeing more Mods on the Games Squad forum for 1814 however ... so maybe a slight advantage there ....

Thanks KG

I'd personally go for Leipzig first, then a flip for Bautzen and 1814 with Bautzen having the edge. If you get both 1813 games that enables you to play the 1813 campaign option.

Leipzig first hands down! Then flip like agmoss99 said.... :)

Round it out later on with Waterloo and then Jena. Both have their pluses and minuses and Jena is interesting in how it plays and what the French need to do to win. It is exactly a steamroll if you play with someone of your own skill level.

But Leipzig got the most attention by the designer, who will hopefully chime in too. All the little perks and scenarios extras he put in them are really awesome! Plus he is a fan of Prussia as well, so decent time & attention were given to them, which isn't always afforded in every game by someone....

I just happen to mention to another Blitz member a few days ago about Leipzig, so the timing of your question couldn't have been better.

I own the whole NAP series and from my POV Leipzig is my favorite JTS NAP title.

It is very well put together, includes alot of extra PDF documentation like uniforms and leaders, Scenario Strategy Guide, Terrain Effects Chart, Weapons Effect Chart, Prussian Regular, Garde and Reserve Regiment Listing, and also includes planning maps.

Most importantly, Leipzig has a different feel to it, in a good way, when playing it that I don't "feel" in other titles.

I too, would highly recommend you get Leipzig.

You will not be disappointed with it. Smile

Feel free to take a look at all the Leipzig scenarios listed in our database.  As you will easily see, you will get alot of bang for your dollar, with this title!

Don,
Leipzig is my favorite game of the series and it has tons of battles that are very well balanced. And tons of those battles have Prussians.

Like Andy, I was a playtester on 1814 and I really like that game too. And I find Lutzen and Bautzen interesting too.

But I would say that if one battle is especially interesting to you, buy that title first so you can scratch that historical itch!

All right Gents - with endorsements like that, the choice is now perfectly clear.

Thanks kindly for your guidance - my Father's Day list is now complete.

In the mean time, I shall continue my training in the Placenoit Demo - which I am already having lots of fun with ...

Best regards,
Don

Just got the game and the volume of scenarios and campaigns is impressive indeed - thanks for that Gents!

On another note though, my aging eyes are having some issues with the graphics on the 3d modes. As compared to the TFS demo and Waterloo release (I assume), the models are quite smaller. While this is kind of nice - as it gives a more realistic formation look, they are a bit of a strain on the eyes compared to the style in TFS.

Does anyone know of any mods to bring it to the TFS / Waterloo graphics set or similar?

I picked up the following:

http://forums.gamesquad.com/showthread.php?111328-A-complete-list-of-the-links-to-Philippe-s-Napoleonic-mods - which seems to have some nice features and terrain enhancements - but still uses the smaller model images.

Any advice on alternatives would be appreciated.
