What's up with That - fastphil - 10-30-2015

Counterbattery fire against unemplaced guns in the open is  ineffective in general.  In the context of the time frame of PB, how do guns set up and appear to be impervious to counterbattery fire in the short time frame given?  An 88 AA sitting in the open is a huge target and not being dug in should be extremely vulnerable to counterbattery fire but it is almost invulnerable.  The gun crew  and ammo vehicles shouldn't be especially if it  has moved and fires.  So am I the only one who finds this true?  In SB you can kill the crew but not apparently in PB.  Still like the game but still the question.  JMHO

Soviet artillery units tend to be small as their guns are usually dispersed in 4, 6 or 8 gun units around the front, and whether a gun is knocked out or not depends on a die roll so you're always rolling the dice in some way with artillery fire against gun (or vehicle) units. It's less reliable than firing at targets consisting of men, that's just how the system works and it has its pros and cons.
