Avalon Hill - Chuck10mtn - 02-19-2015

I was wondering if anybody has played a game that all the units were visable on the board like the old Avalon Hill board games. Was going to play my brother like we used to playing the board games. Anybody playing this way has advise I would appriciate it, Thanks

Chuck

Hello...

Yes there are such options in several of the 'computer (confuser?) games'. Such as the HPS Panzer Campaign series and the OpArt of War and the Campaign Series (a compilation of three of their 'tactical' games) to name a few.

Since they are all different 'titles' they don't work exactly the same, but the general idea is the same. You'll see things like 'Hot Seat'... this is usually the opposite of what you are looking for... when you use this, things 'disappear' when the players change. But, also in the same games... you have basic settings, or choices, so you can set up and play a 'boardgame' like situation. Hope this helps you out or points you in the right direction.... if you need more assistance... let us know... good luck!

Hi Chuck.
One of my opponents accidentally set up a scenario that did not include "fog of war" we decided to continue play. When it ended I did not care much for it. Rushing toward HQs and Artillery deep in the enemy rear areas was not exciting at all.
Also knowing a platoon's strength and morale took something away.

There is something about scouting and running into ambushes that make the game more thrilling to play.

Yes, that's right: if you want to play with all counters visible, leave the "Fog of war" check-box unchecked when creating the battle file. It is in the very first dialog, where you choose sides and optional rules. If that's what you were asking?
