Re-using a D. Bevard map? - Crossroads - 11-19-2011 Those in-the-know, What is your advice for me should I be interested in borrowing a stock scenario map to be used in a new scenario? The scenario in question is D. Bevard's Crusade for Hango. https://www.theblitz.club/scenarios/Campaign-Series/Crusade-for-Hango/action=scenario_details&sid=52&ladder=2 I am in the process of creating an Allied Finland as of 9/1944 and would like to reuse the map for a hypotethical tis-for-tat clash between Finns and Germans in Hango. As both sides had similar equipment, I would take a couple of existing units from German forces in Baltics and pitch them against Finns having pretty much similar equipment: Stugs, PzKpfw IVs, captured T-34s, artillery, infantry, Me 109s, etc... Logistically, that's where Germans would have landed in all likelihood should they have decided to try and annex Finland after the armistice with Soviets in 9/1944... Should be fun! I would naturally credit him for the map in the scenario description. RE: Re-using a D. Bevard map? - Jason Petho - 11-19-2011 Credit the map and rename the map to be the same as your scenario file name -- make sure the name doesn't exist already. I'd recommend your initials and scenario location: jp_budapest.scn jp_budapest.map jp_budapest.org jp_budapest.bmp You could also add the year. jp_budapest44.scn jp_budapest44.map jp_budapest44.org jp_budapest44.bmp Jason Petho RE: Re-using a D. Bevard map? - Crossroads - 11-19-2011 Sound advice, thanks Jason! RE: Re-using a D. I do something similar. When I use a map I put my first name in place of the first letter of the file names. Using the above mine would be: Edudapest.scn Edudapest.map Edudapest.org Edudapest.bmp I explain in a file within the zip that the scenario is part of the "what if" battle that occurred on the same map but at a different time in the war. Ie, an existing 1943 battle of Russian attack becomes the field of battle for the 1941 German attack. Or vice verso. I also like to put in part of the scenario name. Ie, Red Steel at Fedorovko became, Red Mud at Fedorovko. It works for me. Thanks for giving us that ability Jason! HSL RE: Re-using a D. Bevard map? - Big Ivan - 11-20-2011 Speaking of Mr. Bevard, Does anyone know what is is currently doing or some of the first generation Talonsoft guys for that matter? Last I heard Bob McNamara was working for a high end game company but I can't remember which one. I met Bob 20+ years ago at an ASL convention in Cleveland. As I remember he was a very interesting person to talk to with a wealth of game knowledge! Ivan the Big:smoke: RE: Re-using a D. Better to make your own as you did in your previous scns. Huib RE: Re-using a D. Bevard map? - Crossroads - 11-22-2011 Well, there is a peninsula... There is a town at the end of it... Correct enough :) http://g.co/maps/zdzp6 Since I am building a hypotethical scenario it should do. But as the map creation is really the fun part, at least for me, I will continue to create maps for the more historical cases myself |
