Scenario Editor: Selecting a country controlling an objective hex? - Crossroads - 11-17-2010

Gents,

Here is a question that I thought was a problem limited to my PC set up, but apparently it is not. Nothing too serious, but very annoying...

How do you have all the EF countries available in OOB appear in the Objective Hex dialog?

In my scenario, the Objectives were under Finnish control in the beginning. I had no issues setting them up and such. Then, at some point, I moved a couple of them around... and now the only options for a country are Germany and Russia.

What happened to all other countries? The scenario was introduced with some German units (bicycles, to be precise :cheeky: ), they were not there originally, but had to be introduced. I can't recall it anymore, maybe the Objectives wanted to become German once those few German units were in the OOB.

How do I set up the Objectives to appear under Finland again? Anyone?

To see the issue simply download the scenario at : https://www.theblitz.club/scenarios/Campaign-Series/**-Bitter-Kuuterselka/action=scenario_details&sid=1686&ladder=2

Here's what the manual has to say, and it is not helping a lot...

13.24 Setting Objective Hexes

Each scenario must have Objectives for the opposing units to try and capture or defend and/or to exit from. To set up an Objective hex, left click on the hex that you wish to give an Objective Value to. Click on the Objective Tool Bar button to bring up the Objective Dialog. Select which side currently controls the hex and set the point value for the hex. Selecting a point value of zero or setting the controlling side to None will cancel the Objective hex.

Scenario Design Tip #26: When designing a scenario to be played against the A/I, it is better to cluster a few smaller value Victory Point Locations than to have one large high value Victory Point Location.

To create an Exit Objective Hex, select a hex on the map edge and assign it to the side you wish to have exit from that point. Then define the point value for the Objective as -1. Each unit of the side corresponding to the color of the Objective that exits from that hex during the scenario will add its Victory Point value to that side’s Objective Points for the scenario. Note that the value of a unit of the “Second Side” exited from an Exit Objective Hex for its side has its VP value subtracted from the First Side’s Objective Point total.

Did you happen to save the file and reopen it with the editor?

Jason, I am not sure I understand your question...

But as for trying to sort out the issue, I have opened the file after those hexes become German, and I have not been able to figure out how to have them changed to Finnish ones...

Alright.

I will have to take a look when I get home from work.

Bizarre indeed.

Can you tell me what hexes the Victory Locations are?

Thanks.

Victory locations still under Finland:
- 16,37
... and that's the only one it seems.

Those that turned into Germans
- 24,46
- 24,59
- 32,33
- 24,31
- 34,26

The scenario is **Bitter Kuuterselka

EDIT: And yes, those hexes did not change nationalities by themselves, it happened when I edited them, either via changing the victory value (IIRC), but in the most definitive cases when I took off a (Finnish) VL from a hex and created a new one (where Finland no longer was an option, just Germany and Russia).

I used a text editor to change the nationallity of the objective locations

You're welcome!

"When everything else fails, use a text editor"

Thanks Jason!

No problem.

I usually use one first, it is usually easy to spot the problems and correct them.
