WW2 in HD on History Channel - Krec - 11-19-2009

Real good stuff on ww2 . Never before seen footage of the war with 12 stories told by veterans.

I've been watching intently... I think it is good stuff... even my wife is watching and she rarely watches the history stuff...

I have to catch up the last 1/2 hour of Day of Days at 1830 and I'll be caught up for tonight's next installment..

RE: WW2 in HD on History Channel - Bioman - 11-19-2009

I have seen the first 2 days but have not been that impressed. They keep showing some of he same film clips over and over and some are shown out of date sequence. Also they didn't really cover Sicily or Italy and they seemed to gloss over D-Day. I suppose that that was because none of the people whose stories they are telling were involved in those events.
Also the number of commercials almost makes it unwatchable. Even on Sunday when they claimed it would have limited commercial interruptions they had 6-8 commercial breaks of 5-6 minutes each.

You can watch it here too. Not sure if they have the whole thing or not. Of course, it isn't the same as seeing it on a 52" sony:

I am on the other end. I find it fasinating. I get a real flavor of the war and the footage is truely amazing. If your looking for it to cover every aspect of every battle then no that it is not. But for me to listen to the stories of the 12 people and see the actual footage has me hooked. the battles in the pacific were horrific and to see what these guys had to go though is unbelievable. For anyone who wants to see actual footage of ww2 i would recommend.

all I can say is wow, I cant imagine what those men and women went through,, except to say we have it good. Ive watched what I can, unfortunately I cant spend more than an hour or so at a time but even what I see puts me humbly in my place,, I wish it did everyone

RE: WW2 in HD on History Channel - Jim von Krieg - 11-19-2009

Personally I don't expect a recap of the entire war... and I've noticed some things out of sequence as there was a naval shot which clearly had the Saratoga or Lexington in the shot which was talking about events after which both of them were sunk... and the same shots over...

but the personal stories... as my wife says, the "grandpa"... who is the CPT wounded off of Normandy beaches by a German strafing run on the transports...

I can relate to these veterans... I see many similarities between the WW2 stories and the Soldiers of today...

HBO: Pacific - Jim von Krieg - 11-20-2009

Oh you have to watch the trailers... This looks very interesting... I'm drooling on myself...

based on two books written by Pacific Veterans... One of the three main characters is a Medal of Honor winner... John Basilone... EB Sledge... R Malecky... March 2010...

I've been watching with a lot of interest, I had a uncle that was a door gunner on a B-17 in 44-45, another one who was at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7 1941 third that was in the marines and landed on many beaches in the Pacific and a 4th who was stationed in India and recovered planes and people who went forward instead on back in bomb runs over Germany. The stories they told were amazing. The show is really like them sitting down to talk.

My Dad was at Iwo Jima..........one of the coxswains........never would say much about the war..........kinda gives me a sense of what he went thru landing those marines.
