10 Blitz rules to remember... - Der Kuenstler - 10-14-2008

These are all taken from the "Rules of Engagement" section here at the Blitz:

1) "A member may have only one club 'Member Page'" - it may be tempting to start over with a different account and identity but don't do it - this is considered cheating! Some have done this in the past and some have even tried to report games against themselves.

2) "A player will become inactive by not reporting any games for one year following their last game report on that ladder." This means your handle and stats will all disappear from the ladder. In order to get them back you would need to contact the ladder commander or report a new game.

3) "Players should not delete game reports in order to remove themselves (from the ladder)" - this of course deletes the results of everyone you've played, causing much angst. To resign from the ladder, you should request to resign and become a shadow player, but this is permanent - all of your stats here will be lost forever.

4) "Players can challenge anyone on the ladders" - You have the right to make any kind of challenge you want to to any player you want to.

5) "Players retain the right to accept or reject any challenge." Perhaps the player is far more experienced than you, or the scenario offered seems imbalanced. If you don't think the challenge is fair, don't accept - reject the challenge. You have the right to do that. Just because somebody wants to play you, that doesn't obligate you to play him.

6) "Acceptance is considered duly executed at the completion of the first turn." This means you can still reject the game without penalty all the way up until you give your units their first turn orders and push "send" in your email. It's not an "official" game until then. If you don't like your parameters purchase screen, or you don't like the map during setup, you can still back out!

7) "If you don't have the time for a game don't accept the challenge." Remember, it takes a month or longer play a CM game PBEM. Don't take on a bunch of games because you've got a free weekend or you are bored one day.

8) "Generally, it is the winner that reports the game results..." (avoids confusion)

9) "If you disappear for more than three weeks, your opponent is awarded the highest victory possible" A guy started a game with me once knowing he was going to be away for 6 months. You should communicate that type of information UP FRONT - before the game starts, or prepare to get a total loss slapped on you. (Emergencies and tragedies do happen and that is a different story.)

10) "Surrendering a game you are no longer interested in saves your reputation as a gamer" - it helps tie up loose ends faster and may even help your score better than taking the total loss after 3 weeks.
