The new replacement feature - FM WarB - 10-14-2007

Although mentioned in the game users' manual, there is no explanation in the oob editor help as to how to impliment it in the organization diolog. What does that number you can set for the organization's replacements mean?
This feature seems a good idea for fine tuning replacements. The unit recovery allows high rated units to rebuild strength faster than lower rated units. Replacements, I should guess should be set higher for lower rated units to offset this. Peiper cant keep reincarnating faster than Volksgrenadier Kanon fodder, I should think. As replacements should not have the experience of battle tested troops, if morale level is not reduced to units when they arrive, they should be used sparingly for elite units, I'd guess.

The value in the Org os a percentage.
If there is a value in here other than zero, than this value is used
If the value is zero then it is ignored

FM WarB, it is not only limited to high quality v. low quality either, it can be used to have one side only gain recovery through the PDT and the other side gains no recovery but gains replacements to specific units. You can pretty much get an effect you want with a combination of both, the only question is how detailed you want to get in the OOB you are editing.

As you mention though, the best option is to have 1 or 2% replacement to the lower quality units where the higher quality units (like 82nd and 101st AB DIV) get no replacements, only recovery. In the latest N44 I used the replacements to give all US units (except airborne) and UK armor replacements, but the UK infantry get no replacments thus representing the manpower shortage. So you are pretty much only limited by your imagination. Just remember that replacements are effected by supply and command considerations.

Thanks, gentlemen
That would be a percentage of 100%? Units cannot be replaced to more than 100%

RE: The new replacement feature - Volcano Man - 10-14-2007

That would essentially mean it would replace 100% of the given unit's strength each turn, but it wouldn't exceed the unit's OOB given strength level.

BTW, except for extreme cases, the replacement value should be kept low just like the recovery value is. You have to also factor in that a unit might get both recovery and replacements so, ideally, you want to keep the replacements < 10 but most likely between 1 and 4.

We used this in Budapest for the s.Pz.Abt.503
replacement value of 3% whereas the PDT calls for 1%. This unit had a reputation for very high recovery of vehicles from the field.

RE: The new replacement feature - cavalry corps - 10-15-2007

Very good point about the British in N44 . My understanding is there were almost no replacements thats why Monty was so careful ( and cautious ) . I thought Britsh units started too get dispnanded to generate replacements at this point and after N44 as well ( MG44 ?? )

The time you may need a repl level is sometimes when the units are very small like in my EA42 amended campaign the Germans have 5% to simulate their remarkable recovery system . You need this kind of level when the units have less than 10 compomenents I think

That is only the German armour BTW

Yes indeed. I was doing that for T41 and E42 _Alt as well (German Pz Regt vehicle recovery). I also used it in T41_Alt with the 88s since those units are so small (2 guns) they need a boost to keep them alive long enough to be useful.
