Importance of HQ's - Montana Grizz - 02-12-2007

If a unit is within range of all headquarters: Battalion, Regiment, Brigade, Division, Corps and Army, which is the most significant in terms of that unit being provided with supplies?

Specifically, if an engineer platoon is in a given hex and it's parent Battalion HQ is within 5 hexes and it's Regiment HQ's is within 8 hexes and Brigade within 10 hexes, etc., which headquarters is more apt to supply this unit?

Is a unit more apt to be supplied by a Corps HQ than a non-parent Battalion HQ even though they are both within the same hex supply range?

Thanks gentlemen,

Pat

Pat, quick question.

Do you have the manual?

Hope you're well

HQ's supply follows a bottom up heirarchy

You trace to your parent HQ, if it is out of supply, because it moved the previous turn, you go to the next one up and so on until finally you are left with the overall ammo rating for the scenario.

Hi Jason,

Someone was good enough to send me the manual (email), but I can't seem to open it??

Therefore, I may ask some questions that are otherwise available in printed form.

Thanks,

Pat

One important thing about parent HQs.........if a unit goes low on ammo as a result of firing it must trace directly to its parent HQ(platoons and companies trace directly to the HQ they are placed under in the .org file but a battalion with no hq has no where to trace)..........and if there isn't one or it gets eliminated the unit will be low on ammo for the rest of the scenario.........makes them a bit more important....at least I think that's right.

Oh BTW,.............ask questions..........the only bad question is the one that never gets asked :-)

Pat

I would be happy to send you a PDF version of the East Front II manual, if you wish.

Take care and good luck

I found that reducing the overall ammo level in scenario design is a good way of reducing the game speed. Units are more dependent on their HQ's so the player needs to keep the units together and give the HQs time to deploy and supply. Also the effect of artillery is reduced which can be good in some cases.

Agreed, Huib

I've been using the same thing!
