Best of the ACW titles - Warhorse - 12-16-2017 Hi all, I have Campaign Overland and really like it, am mostly a WW1-Modern guy, but my interest has become piqued for the Civil War now as well! I would like you guys input as to which would be the best title of the rest of them to go for next? Thanks in advance! RE: Best of the ACW titles - KG_RangerBooBoo - 12-17-2017 My stock answer is to pick the one that most interests you. You'll be able to find opponents here for any of them. RE: Best of the ACW titles - Compass Rose - 12-17-2017 Mike, I also have to go with what Mark stated. Go with what you have an interest in, whether it be location, battles, units that fought, etc. Back years ago, when I first started playing the series, I was interested in purchasing the titles that had Illinois units in it. It didn't take long to realize how fun this series was and before I knew it, I owned the whole series. Every title in the ACW series has small, medium, and large sized scenarios and in case you are not aware of it, there is a free 20,000 scenario download that is available for Gettysburg which can be found here: https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=61609 If you are buying the titles brand new, I highly suggest you buy them through JTS only. https://john-tiller-software.myshopify.com/collections/civil-war-battles BTW, JTS is currently offering a sale and you can get the JTS version of Ozark for $29.99 which is a good deal! https://john-tiller-software.myshopify.com/collections/sale-items Wagram from the NAP series is also on sale. Now would be a good time to try that one, too. The NAP series is a blast just like the ACW series. And both series have many 3rd party art mods already available. https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards/forumdisplay.php?fid=239 Maybe we will luck out and you'll create some of your top-notch art mods that we have been seeing from the FWWC and PzC series and you start creating some mods for the ACW and NAP series.! ![]() If you have any questions, feel free to ask privately or publicly. .... and keep us posted what you end up getting! ![]() RE: Best of the ACW titles - Pepe Botijo - 12-17-2017 Hey Mike, I´ve heard very positive opinions from other users about Gettysburg, Petersburg and Antietam. I do not own these titles though. RE: Best of the ACW titles - Warhorse - 12-17-2017 Ok, went with Gettysburg for starters!! BTW, I did do an ACW terrain mod, will post as soon as I dbl-chk things!! RE: Best of the ACW titles - Sgt_Rock - 04-01-2018 Best titles IMHO by far are: Shiloh Chickamauga Antietam Atlanta I prefer (mainly) the titles designed by Rich Walker. The last two entries (Overland and Petersburg) are for those that like entrenched situations (primarily). I prefer battles of maneuver. Gettysburg is a fine addition as well. I also liked Chancellersville and Ozark. I play the others from time to time. Rich Walker puts the CSA artillery (for the most part) in larger sections resulting in a more enjoyable experience. Yes, there are still a few of the smaller 2 guns sections here and there but mainly he did what a lot of us felt would result in a more balanced scenario. RE: Best of the ACW titles - Warhorse - 04-04-2018 Great, thanks for the input, fellahs! RE: Best of the ACW titles - Compass Rose - 04-04-2018 How is your art mod coming? RE: Best of the ACW titles - Warhorse - 04-05-2018 It will, I got engrossed with icon-making for Vietnam, so other things took a sideline! I will post a pic here soon, thanks for the reminder!! ![]() RE: Best of the ACW titles - Sgt_Rock - 08-12-2018 I pick Shiloh, Gettysburg, Antietam and Chickamauga ... Have had the most enjoyment from the Rich Walker games. Rich combined the guns together so that both sides didnt have a bunch of 1 and 2 gun sections running around. A real winner with me ... Also the battles of that period of the war interest me the most. I also like Atlanta and Ozarks. The later has some real gems - smaller battles - to play. |
