That's the reason I've stopped playing waw series, got fed up with clicking like crazy just to get one arty plotted.
Hi folks.

I´ve experienced the same problem, a "low performance mouse bug".
Amazing, the problem disappeared and reoccured without I´ve changed any settings. Like Vesku said, very annoying. Time has come to update Steel Panthers to a modern version. Anybody listening from the Matrix or Camo team ? I´d recommend to design a MAC version too, as many users are really tired from Windows stuff. :kill:

Cheers, Klaus cheers

I got tired of doing that a lot since the chip I'm running has no L2 cache and I starting researching it and found that if I turn off cideamon.exe BEFORE starting a turn it helps a lot.

Are you sure?
unless you lose stuff on your computer a lot try adjusting your file search settings to basic & cidemon.exe wont run. It records where stuff is on the harddisk to a logfile for searching purposes only to speed up but how often do you search for stuff?
Tried alt tabing & could not see any real diffrence cache dropped 1-3MB thats all. Perhaps if you are very short on memory starting another process/program clears the cache some do try & create as much space to run in as possible, increasing your page file might help.
cidaemon.exe updates the search log fairly often. AFAIK, that search log is used by many of the DLL's. That is why I don't want to permanently disable it. I'm no windoze maven, but those DLL's have always been a big part of all the problems windoze has. This Machine has only two slots and cannot take anything larger then 512 per slot (yes, I know, OLD gear. But I'm an old guy, so the old gear thangie is OK)
IMHO, the stack overflows and a wrong value is returned because the pointer is getting "lost". That is why the screen goes psychedelic. 'course, that theory doesn't explain why the system doesn't lock up when the stack overflows. I wonder if cidaemon.exe and it's ability to take 100% of resources might be derailing the fatal error code. Don't know enough about modern chip structure to have a guess on that.
Windoze is so buggy Microsucks might have hard wired the 'run on fatal' switch in the ON position just to get the beast out the door.
RE cidaeamon.exe

I run a modified version of XP with after market addons & thats what my task manager says about it. It says if enabled you can switch off for 15 minutes but not recomended stop use by adjusting search criteria. Try looking on web or sticking indexing in help. It does NOT run on my system can do a system restore or back up registry first just in case.
Also try clearing out your computer empty temp etc using something like CCleaner if you dont already it should not be hogging resources like that so your oveflow problem could be correct there are good free aftermarket process monitors out there that give far more detail & let you track down problems.
My laptop is 1GB & has no trouble playing game while streaming music & ALT TABing to answering emails etc so might be worth trying.
I'm running XP and my OS doesn't run the exe at all :)

That would support what my task manager told me only used by search engine it has nothing to do with the running of the operating system.
Hi folks,

a part of the problem is related to power management drivers and Win Sp3.

Cheers, Klaus
Install a Win 98 SE or Win 2000 as 2nd OS on a 2nd partition of your HD. SPWAW 7.1 or greater run best on Win 98se in my experience. Ok, there is this crash bug sometimes when hitting the the T for targeting :whis:

Also some other older games may give better performance on this older OS (Call of duty 1 for example)...
I think the XP boot will detect another Microsoft OS automaticly and ask in the bootmenu which you wish to boot, if not just use a bootmanager (for example the one from partition magic)...
