Off-line
My PC lost the network two days ago... I still haven't been able to figure out what's going on...

The cable is Ok, my sons mini laptop does connect to LAN. PC Network card blinks happy greenish colours... But cannot get settings from the adsl box...

I hope I can resume gaming soon... Frustrated !!!

RE: Off-line
Reboot the modem and your router.

RE: Off-line
Thanks Dave,

No, it's not that. The modem/router/wifi all-in-1 box works, I verified even the cable connection with this mini laptop I am using. All the wireless devices continue to work, my iPhone, kids' PS3 etc. I can renew this laptops ip address with no problems.

It seems Norton Security and Microsoft Firewall canceled each other out. I am trying to restore the status to a state it was two weeks ago, from an automatic back-up point that was available.

If that fails, I guess I need to install everything from the scratch. Damn I hate computers.

---

OK. Restored the system state. Network services up and running again. Norton informed it is broken, requiring a complete removal and installation. All installations done after the previous back up point re-installed, including Firefox 4. Everything seems to be working again.

Damn! And all this time I could have been killing Germans. And Russians. And Norwegians! :bang:
