The Battle of Tannenberg was a great disaster for the Russian
Army. After the smashing of the Russian Narew Army by the Germans
the Russian Headquarters sent a Cavalry - and Infantry Division
to break up the ring. At the town of Ortelsburg they met with
elements of the German 176th Infantry Regiment, within the burning
town. The order for the Russian Divisions was clear; Ortelsburg
must fall if they want to have a chance to rescue the encircled
