03 JANUARY 1940, RATTE ROAD, MAKINEN"S ROADBLOCK, 44th DIVISION MOTTI
Immediately following I./JR.27's successful road cutting operation, Finnish engineers erected a series of barriers and minefields with blazing speed. Predicting a very strong counter thrust by the 44th Rifle Division, the commander of the Finnish 9th Division (Siilasvuo) took the extreme risk of sending Captain Lasilla's battalion the only two 37mm Anti-tank guns the division possessed. Arriving shortly before 0700 hours, the 37mm Bofors guns were no sooner laid in when the Soviets launched a heavy combined arms attack on what was now known as Makinen's roadblock (named for the Task Force Commander).
Now in possesion of the correct tools for the trade, Finnish AT gunners peppered the advancing tanks with precision fire. Knocking out 7 AFV's within the first 15 minutes of combat, the Finnish AT gunners left the road littered with burning Red Armor. These destroyed hulks served to strengthen the defensive value of the Finnish roadblock by providing obstacles to future Soviet advances.

I think from the outset the Finns need to reinforce the objectives using troops out on the wings. Nothing important is going to happen anywhere but in the centre, near the road and the objectives, and movement through the woods is slow, so especially the Finns need to get those molotovs - as many as possible - in range of the road from the outset.
