H2H-The Push for Peronne - WFBP1_do not use for reporting games

May 20 1940 The armored spearhead of the German XIX Panzer Corps thrust west and south toward the channel coast. The German advance paralelled the French east -west defensive lines protecting Paris to the south. At St. Quentin the Allied defensive line turned sharply northward toward Lille. On May 20th lead elements of the 10th Panzer Divison made contact with the French 9th Army along the line. The town of Peronne was to the south of Arras and the 9th Army had been preparing the area since May 10th. Many defensive positions were in place and the troops were ready. With their backs nearly to the sea the French forces stood with grim determination. The 10th Panzer Division attacked immediately and they encountered fierce resistance from the French defenders.
