19 October, 1940: Having missed out on the attacks on SC-7, KrvKpt Prien of Scapa Flow fame arrived in the hunting grounds of the Western Approaches and promptly located Convoy HX 79. He flashed a report and began to shadow. Doenitz sent the 4 victorious boats from SC-7 that still had torpedoes to assist in the attack. They came in aggressively and sank twelve ships and damaged two others.
