5 July, 1941: While attempting to close on a convoy contact reported by a Condor, Kptlt Lehmann-Willenbrock in U-96 came across a small convoy of ships, moving fast. Despite the presence of three corvettes, the aggressive commander decided to attack the closely protected vessel, the Anselm. His spread was successful but U-96 would endure a severe depth charging and abort as a result.
