18 October, 1940: Responding to reports from U-38 and U-48, five submarines converged on the weakly escorted SC-7. The convoy escort had been reinforced, but five submarines, including one captained by U Boat Ace Otto Kretchmer, would prove too much. Under a full 'Hunter's Moon', they would wreak havoc. Including ships lost on the 17th and 16th, the total loss was 20 sunk and 6 damaged.
