Scenario Briefing: The Battle of Zusmarshausen: - Discovering the approach of the more numerous French and Swedish armies, the Imperial general Melander decided to retreat to Augsburg, deploying a 1500 strong rearguard under the capable Montecuccoli attempting to delay the more numerous enemy cavalry long enough for the main army to retreat. This scenario starts at 9am with Montecuccoli's cavalry being driven back to the third pass, defended by 800 entrenched Imperialist musketeers and four guns, hotly pursued by 3000 Swedish and French cavalry, with additional forces marching up behind them. Meanwhile, Gronsfeld's small Bavarian army had been digging in on the other side of the river, ready to give the enemy a hot reception.

Recommended Rules: Default - with the following alterations: Column Movement Restriction optional rule ON

Note: Best played as an Anti-Imperialist (i.e. Swedish / French) player against a Bavarian (Imperialist) A/I.

Note: This scenario uses the Salvo pdt, with increased fire factors for Salvo muskets but no defensive fire capability. In addition, battalion guns are represented abstractly with enhanced range and firepower for the associated infantry units.
