Scenario Briefing: The Swedish attempt to storm Ingolstadt - After the battle at the river Lech, the Bavarian retreat was skillfully conducted by Duke Maximilian and the key garrisons of Ingolstadt and Regensburg were reinforced, although the Bavarian capital of Munich had to be abandoned to the enemy. Meanwhile, ten days after the battle, the Bavarian garrison of Augsburg accepted the honors of war and surrendered the city. However, with his lines of communication northwards insecure, the Swedish king couldn't risk invading Austria, especially with Maximilian's army still intact and another enemy army under Wallenstein now moving into Bohemia. After a failed attempt to force Maximilian to sue for peace, Gustavus decided to attempt to storm Ingolstadt on 3rd May since, unless this city and Regensburg could be captured, it would be impossible to control Bavaria.
