Scenario Briefing: The Battle of Hochst: Mansfeld to the Rescue "What if" - After the defeat of one Anti-Imperialist army under Baden-Durlach at Wimpfen on 6th May, another Anti-Imperialist general, Duke Christian of Brunswick, had remained inactive at Hochst in the expectation of joining forcing with Mansfeld. However, Mansfeld had fallen back to Mannheim after suffering a setback in an action at Lorsch on 10th June and, after waiting three days for Mansfeld, Brunswick suddenly found himself facing a more numerous Catholic force under the veteran opponent Tilly. Brunswick would have to fight a difficult rearguard action in order to get the bulk of his army away but, fortunately for him, Tilly's advance would be cautious, since he was suspecting another trap like the one Mansfeld sprung on him at Mingolsheim.

Recommended Rules: Default

Note: Best played as the Catholic (Imperialist) side against the Anti-Imperialist A/I or else Head-to-Head.

Note: This hypothetical scenario assumes that Mansfeld's army arrives piecemeal on the battlefield to assist Brunswick.
