3 December 1800 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - This scenario uses the Normal Terrain (NT) graphics. Weather conditions are still in effect. The initial contact of the Battle of Hohenlinden was made on the French right flank near the village for which this conflict was named. Grouchy's division was deployed facing southeast towards the dark woods near Birkach. The 108th Demi-brigade was deployed near the wood line and skirmishers had been deployed in the woods to detect any Austrian movement. As Kolowrat's men came out of the morning mist they were fired on by the French voltigueurs who fell back under the pressure on their parent formation. The Austrians couldn't see much initially as the woods blocked their view of the plain near the village. The 108th made a good stand near Birkach but had to fall back after being flanked. What followed was a superior display of command and control by the French as Kollowrat stripped his column of troops to make contact with other Hapsburg forces to the southeast. When all was said and done the French had turned back the Austrians. This would prove to be true of all of the engagements that day.
