Scenario length – 12 hours June 19, 1944. By mid 1944, the rough balance of the naval war in late 1942 was a thing of the past. The United States had continued to produce ships and aircraft in amounts the Japanese simply could not match. When the United States decided to attack the Marianas Islands, the Japanese decided they had to respond, planning to use Land Based Air units as the great equalizer. However, the US improvements in aircraft design, radar, fighter control and pilot training would combine to give the battle an informal nickname: "The Great Marianas Turkey Shoot"
