February 17, 1944: Throughout the first half of the war, the Japanese base at Truk Atoll was considered one of the most impregnable positions in the Pacific. However, as new aircraft carriers came into the
Fleet, the United States was able to form Task Force 58, the Fast Carrier Task Force. One of the first targets was the fleet anchorage at Truk. A week earlier, a US scouting mission over Truk alerted the Japanese that an attack might be impending. Therefore, they decided to have the remaining Combined Fleet forces at Truk retreat to a more secure location. However, Operation Hailstone would find plenty of targets. (Notes: This scenario is designed for play against a Japanese AI. Also note that the US TBF groups carry a variety of loads, so target them carefully)
