Scenario length – 6.5 hours
February 17, 1944. [Hypothetical] Early in 1944, the Japanese decided that Truk was no longer a secure advanced base for the Combined Fleet. Therefore, they withdrew their major combat units from Truk to safer locations deeper inside the empire. The wisdom of that decision was shown by the events of Operation Hailstone, when US Forces attacked Truk and devastated the remaining ships in the harbor. However, what would have happened if the Japanese hadn't withdrawn their forces in time? This scenario assumes that the IJN had enough warning to get their forces out of the atoll.
