1010 25 October 1942. Lt. Cdr. Agnew, having delivered supplies to Tulagi had attempted to slip away undetected through the Sealark Channel. Clearing the channel they were dismayed to spot 3 ships of DesDiv 6 bearing down on them. Maneuvering wildly the old destroyers played for time. Luck was on their side. The Japanese turned aside, distracted by two coastal craft, YP-284 and the tug Seminole. Dispatching them quickly the completed their mission of bombarding Henderson Field before withdrawing in the face of American airpower.
