(Historical 30 minute turns) From their base on Folly Island, the Union conducts an amphibious assault to capture Morris Island, defended by Battery Wagner. Wagner, a well-placed sand fort, is the protector of fort Sumter, and even Charleston itself. Confederates are stretched for manpower--in the months prior, parts of the Charleston garrison were sent to reinforce Lee in Virginia and Johnston in Mississippi--but they are strong in artillery. The Union fleet shares in the drama, with a vast armada of wooden ships supporting a squadron of the latest ironclad monitors. This scenario begins with the initial U.S. landings on Morris Island, to begin the long slog against Battery Wagner and, ultimately, Fort Sumter. Reference: "Gate of Hell" by Stephen R Wise. The movie "Glory" with Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.
