Date: August 19th, 1192 - Size: Small - Location: City of Bilbeis, south of Damietta towards Cairo
Crusade: The Third Crusade
Scenario Briefing: Variant - Having successfully taken Damietta from the garrison defenders of Saladin, King Richard had decided to continue his conquest of Egypt and as previously mentioned, Richard's ultimate goal is to deny the wealth and manpower of Egypt that could be used to assist Saladin in retaking the Levant after he has left the Holy Land and returned to England.
As the Crusaders army moved south toward Cairo, the next presumptive target was the city of Bilbeis. In this scenario, Richard's army was largely the same as that which had taken Damietta, but with an additional small contingent of Templar knights. As before, Richard, who is moving very quickly by the standards of the day, have mostly ladders to scale the walls of Bilbeis. Additionally, the Crusader army has one trebuchet. Remember, the campaigning season is near its end, and if both Egypt and finally Jerusalem is to be taken before its conclusion, there is no time to lose.
Note that due to Richard's need to hasten the approach, Richard's force will comprise his vanguard only.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
Intended to be played as the Crusader Alliance against the Anti-Crusader Alliance AI but can be played Head-to-Head.
Suggested Reading: Asbridge, Thomas, The Crusades: The Authoritative History of the War for the Holy Land.
