Date: June 29th, 1124 - Size: Small - Location: The city Tyre
Crusade: Period between 1st and 2nd Crusade
Scenario Briefing: A major goal of the Crusaders from the time Jerusalem was first captured to the time period of this siege, was the complete control over the entirety of the Palestinian coast. From the southeastern part of Anatolia to Egypt. Only two strongholds remained in Muslim control. The cities of Ascalon in the south and Tyre in the north.
During the time of Alexander the Great, Tyre was an island city that prevented any effort to capture it by land. To overcome this obstacle, Alexander constructed an Isthmus. Nearly 1500 years later, the city was again under siege and it was this isthmus that made it possible. This scenario takes place on the last day of a nearly 2-year siege. During that time, the city had been largely controlled by the Fatimids of Egypt. However, during a naval engagement with the Venetian fleet, a large part of the Fatimid fleet was destroyed and the Fatimid Caliph in Cairo had no choice but to hand over the defense of the city to Zahir al-Din Toghtekin, the emir of Damascus. Toghtekin advanced in an effort to raise the siege, but was forced to halt his progress when confronted by Pons, the Count of Tripoli and William de Bury, the King's constable. With this, the fate of Tyre was sealed.
Your task as the leader of the besieging army is to capture Tyre before the end of the day. Remember, though the city has been weakened by lack of food and water, taking the city will be no easy task. Note: The forces of Pons, the Count of Tripoli and William de Bury are present on the map, but will remain fixed as the threat of a relief effort from Toghtekin is still present and these forces are in reserve to counter such a threat.
Additionally, as Islamic smugglers have managed to supply this besieged city, a supply source has been placed near the harbor gate. This supply source will help the garrison avoid the effects of isolation.
Remember, only units that have a strength of 75 or less may use a siege tower to reach a wall hex.
