Crusade: Period between 1st and 2nd Crusade

Scenario Briefing: The time between the 1st and 2nd Crusade was not one of peace. In fact, it was anything but peaceful. In 1115 those that practiced the Islamic faith were at war with those that called themselves Christians. With that, one would think Islam would be united in their wish to destroy these invaders from the land of the Franks. However, many Muslims were more than willing to make peace and even form alliances with the Crusaders, just to gain an advantage against their long time Muslim rivals.

Yet, most wanted war. The sultan of Baghdad was one that wanted war and to unify Muslims for the purpose of expelling the Crusaders and recapturing the holy city of Jerusalem. To this end, an army was sent into the Crusader states with the task of killing Crusaders and recruiting more Muslims wanting to do the same. And it didn't matter if the recruits were willing or not.

In this scenario, two armies will meet in the Valley of Sarmin. The Crusader army was mainly comprised of Antiochenes and Edessians. They were led by Prince Roger of Antioch and Count Baldwin of Edessa. Hastily assembled, this small force numbered less than 4,000. Facing them would be a Muslim army led by Bursuk ibn Bursuk, the emir of Hamadan. This army would far exceed the Crusaders in numbers, more than 2-1 on this field of battle. However, their overall enthusiasm would be inferior. And if caught by surprise, the result could be disastrous. For the Crusaders, act fast and attack. Show no mercy as none will be shown to you. As the leader of the Muslims, recover fast and counter-attack or all will be lost.

Note: Due to the element of the surprise attack, all Muslim forces will start disordered and many are temporarily fixed. Also, some fatigue has been applied.
