Date: June 28th, 1113 - Size: Medium - Location: South of the Jordan River, near al-Sannabra
Crusade: Period between 1st and 2nd Crusade
Scenario Briefing: Since 1110, the Sultan of the Seljuk Empire had ordered invasions into the lands held by the Christian Crusaders, the year 1113 would be no exception. His forces would be commanded by Mawdud ibn Altuntash of Mosul.
This battle would find the Crusaders united in defense of their lands. The four major principalities of Jerusalem, Antioch, Tripoli and Edessa answered of the call of their King and marched to join him in battle, but not all would arrive on time. On the Muslim side, the Sultan would field a numerically superior army. Many of whom, would be the feared mounted archers that are known for moving fast, striking hard with a barrage of arrows, and moving as quickly away to minimize their loses.
The battlefield would have no particular strategic value. Rather, it only served as a convenient site where both armies converged for this engagement. The battle would take place south of the Jordan River near the bridge at al-Sannabra.
If you choose to play as the Crusaders, be cautious on deciding how to advance your forces. If you would rather choose to defender as the Islamic side, be wary of the Heavy Mounted Knights of the Crusaders and give as good as you take. Your enemy awaits, grab your weapon of choice and let the battle begin.
Note: There is an exit hex for the crusaders to exit the map and gain victory points at 41,0.
