Date: July 12th, 1109 - Size: Medium - Location: The city Tripoli
Crusade: Period between 1st and 2nd Crusade
Scenario Briefing: Variant - The siege of Tripoli was one of the longest during the Crusading period in the Levant, roughly from 1102 to July 1109. The battle on this day represents the climatic conclusion of those many years. When the siege began, the city was controlled by the Seljuks. This changed in 1108 when the citizens and nobles of Tripoli lost their faith in the Seljuk leadership of Fakhr al-Mulk ibn Ammar and handed the city over to the Fatimid Sharaf ad-Dawla ibn Abi al-Tayyib, the wali (friend of God) of al-Afdal Shahanshah, the vizier in Cairo for the Fatimid caliphs. However, the siege did not end with this change in leadership. The months of siege continued and still there was no help coming from Egypt to relieve the siege. And now we come to the 12th of July, 1109. The Crusaders, under the leadership of King Baldwin I, will take just one more day to finish this ongoing concern.
This variant assumes that the Genoese fleet was forced to leave the surrounding seas due to other threats further north. With this news, al-Afdal Shahanshah, vizier of Egypt set about organizing a fleet capable of ferrying thousands of Fatimid warriors along with hundreds of horses and much needed supplies. If successful, this force will confront the Crusaders and raise the siege.
Remember, only units that have a strength of 75 or less may use a siege tower to reach a wall hex.
Recommended Rules: [Default]
This scenario should played as the Crusader Alliance against the Islamic Alliance A/I or Head-to-Head.
