July 5, 1809(H) - Napoleon's Army has bridged the Danube in an effort to avenge the defeat of Aspern-Essling and end the 1809 campaign in one stroke. While several diversions kept the Austrians occupied further downstream the engineers threw several bridges accross on the evening of the 4th of July. The only resistance they met was in the form of some Jagers who locked themselves in a castle until they ran out of ammunition. With the dawn of the 5th the Army of Germany was marching steadily accross the bridges to form up to take Gross-Enzerdorf which was the key pivot point of Napoleon's planned advance accross the Marchfeld. Now as the bands play you as Napoleon or Charles can relive this historic moment! This scenario features only the first day of the battle. Napoleon must be bold if he will win on this day. This alternate version includes the forces of the Archduke John who has taken up a position on the east side of the Lobau. The III and V Corps are also included and are stationed near Aspern and Essling respectively. The French get the rest of the Army of Italy as reinforcements on the 5th of July. This version of the historical fight favors the Austrians slightly.
