(Historical) Like Heaton's Crossroads, the Battle of Cool Springs was a Union attempt to attack the retreating Confederates, then crossing the Shenandoah River. However, this affair would engage a larger number of troops and take place over two days. Union Generals Crook and Wright, both assumed that the Confederates defending the river crossing was nothing more than a small skirmish line. However, these troops sent out the message that they were under attack, and within a short time, Confederate General's Early and Breckinridge, were on their way to halt the Union attack.
