17 June 1799 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head - MacDonald ordered the Army of Italy to advance on Piacenza to cut the Allied lines of communication. Finding only a small force of Austrians to the west of the city near the Tidone Creek he ordered his forces to clear the riverbank and advance on the town of Castel San Giovanni. Ott's advance guard held the bank as well as could be expected but the press of the French numbers began to tell and they fell back on Sarmato. His orders were to buy time for the remainder of the Allied forces under Suvarov to be able to clear the confined spaces to the east of Stradella which was not far from the battlefield. Ott was showing signs of folding when the elements of Chastler's division started arriving. Slowly but surely the Allied numbers rose while the French were showing signs of wear. Eventually the Allies mounted a counterattack and drove the French back across the Creek. Can you as the Allies repeat history or will the AI push you off of the map? NOTE: GD Victor stayed in Piacenza for the entire action. MacDonald was suffering from wounds and also remained in Piacenza.
