6 September 1813 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head or Solo - This is a 5 min/turn, 50m/hex scale, company level version of scenario 058. Dennewitz: The Cauldron, which concentrates only on the action around Gölsdorf. Ney's advance into Dennewitz and beyond put his head into a noose which the Prussians were soon to exploit by mid-afternoon. With the IV Corps stationed on the hills to the north and west of the town and Reynier's VII Corps just to the south near Göhlsdorf the long French left flank was vulnerable to a counterattack. Add to this that Ney intended on swinging the XII Corps of Oudinot around to the east of Dennewitz and the recipe for disastor was set. The Prussians pressed down on the Saxons and were to eventually break them and send them reeling back. Only the timely intervention of the XII Corps and the timidity of Bernadotte saved the day for the French. Bülow and his Prussians covered themselves in glory. Tauentzien would later challenge the Prussian commander to a duel for having been given all of the accolades for the battle. Such was Prussian honor in those days!
