21 August 1813 - Alternate - Intended to be played Head to Head - Prior to the actual Battle of the Katzbach, Napoleon had moved with the Army of the Bober and Ney to attack Blücher but the wily veteran obeyed the orders to avoid a battle with Napoleon at all costs. Thus no battle developed as the Allies fell back to the east. In this situation, Napoleon has returned to Dresden to take care of matters concerning the army and Ney will command the army against the Allies.

Enjoyable and well balanced in forces, with an opportunity for each side to act offensively as well as defensively.

Very enjoyable medium size scenario. Plenty of maneuver, artillery duels, and back & forth fights over villages. Best historically accurate feel of any scenario I have played.

From the perspective of the Allies, I was very concerned that the numbers are roughly even or a bit pro-French once you take into account that the Allies have thousands of Cossacks and the onus seems to be on the allies to attack given the head start the French have in VP. However, it seems the French troops aren't very good and rout quite easily which puts things back into balance. The most challenging part of the scenario is figuring out exactly what to do. In the game I played, the French attacked which simplified things for me. If they hadn't, I was a bit of a loss as to how to approach it.....
