20 August 1809 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head or Solo as the Allied player vs. the AI (see RSW-Solo.pdf for Solo play victory levels) - Following the Battle of Sävar the Swedish army fell back on their base at Ratan. The Russians advanced in their wake and found the Swedes gathered near the village of Ratan. Unfortunately for the Russians, all of the Swedish expeditionary naval forces were also present. The Russians had divided up their troops into two forces: one which was composed of Jagers and advanced directly on Ratan from the west and the Main Column which was composed of the regulars and artillery. As the Jagers advanced they came under heavy fire from the ships. The Main Column formed a battery and for several hours both sides exchanged artillery fire. The Russians decided not to press the issue (after suffering about 150 casualties) but sent a message to the Swedes stating that they would attack in force. Rather than rely on their powerful naval guns the Swedes embarked on the ships and weighed anchor and sailed. NOTE: I did not have much to go on for this scenario. Lars Rössle, co-author of the scenario books I used as one of my sources, was most helpful in giving me information on the order of battle for the navy. I am not sure if the Russians detached any troops to garrison their flanks/rear so I just used the order of battle from Savar minus any losses that both sides took in the action. Consider this a bonus scenario and as I discover more information on the battle I will be sure to update the scenario accordingly.
