28 August 1808 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head or Solo as the Allied player vs. the AI (see RSW-Solo.pdf for Solo play victory levels) - Major General Vagesack had been ordered to make an amphibious landing near Bjornbourg to attack the rear of the Russian left flank. He made his landing but the loss at Karstula changed the Swedish plans. His new orders were to march to Vasa and further to the north to reinforce the sagging left flank of the army. On the 28th his forces arrived at Lappfjärd where they rested for the evening. Meanwhile, the Russian forces under Bibikov were advancing north from Ömossa, towards Lappfjärd to support the other Russian attack on Nummijärvi where Furuhjelm (acting commander in place of von Döbeln who was ill) was stationed with the 2nd Brigade. Bibikov knew that the 2nd Brigade and the Gyllenbögell Freikorps were present but had no idea the Vegesack's 1st Division was in the area. By 8 AM on the 29th his forces were engaged with those of Furuhjelm's. The Swedes had cut down timber to protect the likely approach routes to their postion and actually enjoyed a slight majority in numbers. Furuhjelm knew of the Russian advance and requsted that Vegesack to come to his assistance. The Russians first attacked the Swedish right flank but that failed. An attack on the Swedish left flank likewise failed. Vegesack's 1st Divison began to arrive and the subsequent counterattack through the Russians back to the south. For Vegesack the victory was later turned into a rebuke by the King that he had lost the war due to his failure to march north as ordered. The victory caused the Russians to divert much needed forces to the coast.
