21 August 1808 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head or Solo as the French player vs. the AI (see RSW-Solo.pdf for Solo play victory levels) - Following the battle of Alavo, the Russians retreated forty kilometers to the south and reached Herranen, followed by the Swedish-Finnish force. Palmfelt was now in overall command and his vanguard reached the Russian position around 2pm on the 21st. The Swedish artillery silenced the Russian howitzers and a lively exchange of infantry fire followed. The main body of the Swedish army arrived about two hours later and their artillery added their weight to the firefight. One battalion of the Swedish force had been detailed to make a flanking attack by boat to cut off the Russian retreat path through the peninsula. Once they began to arrive the Russians had had enough and continued their retreat to the south. Special Rules: 1. No units from either side may peform melees until turn 24 (when the Swedish Main Column arrives). 2. No Russian unit may exit the map prior to turn 36. This was mainly a firefight, and while the Vanguard was outnumbered, the Russians were not in any mood to make a spoiling attack. This is reflected in much of their force being fixed until 4 PM. 3. The amphibious 2/Aboläns IR with "HAS BOATS" capability arrives (variable arrival - 10 percent) at the entrance to the small bay near the peninsula starting at 4:30 PM. Historically the showed up 3 hours after the battle began. Rather than making their arrival a certainty their arrival will change with each play of the scenario. More than likely the Russians will have retreated off the map before or just as they are arriving.
