27 April 1808 - Historical - Intended to be played Head to Head or Solo as the French player vs. the AI (see RSW-Solo.pdf for Solo play victory levels) - After the action at Siikajoki the Russian commander, Kulnev, split his forces with one force remaining along the coast while Bulatov was posted to Revolaks to watch the Swedish left flank. This force concerned the Swedes who decided to move a force around to the south and attack the Russians from the rear in conjunction with a detachment, commanded by Adlercreutz, which would approach from the north and pin down the Russians. The northern detachment arrived promptly at 3 AM near the village but Constedt, who commanded the 4th Brigade attacking from the south, had a longer route to take and did not arrive until 7 AM. By that time Adlercreutz' force was spent and had to withdraw. No more had the Russians stopped for a rest than the two columns of Cronstedt began to appear to the south. With Aminoff commanding the right and Christiernin in command of the left (with Cronstedt accompanying), the army swept down upon the Russians. Cronstedt had assumed that the Russians were concentrated on the right bank of the river but in fact it became apparent that they were dug in at the village and along the heights. Artillery fire from the 12lb guns rained down on the right wing forces. Aminoff crossed the ice with his force to make an attack on the village while the left column made a sweeping attack on the village proper and around the open western flank. The attack was sharp but the Russians were overwhelmed and Bulatov was wounded as he tried to escape on his horce. This was the turning point of the war. The Finnish army went over to the attack and would hold the initiative until more Russian forces arrived from the south. Note: 1. the Russians are facing to the north in several instances. This is due to the fact that the attack from the north had just ended when Cronstedt's attack from the south began. 2. The battle lasted for many hours but this scenario captures the main action and the Russians probably will capitulate long before the historical length would be reached.
