8 October 1805 - Historical - The outflanking of the Ulm position relied on the flanking forces to be able to drive back and destroy and formations they met along the way. One such command was Auffenberg's column which had taken up position near the village of Wertingen which is east of Ulm near the Old Roman Road. Murat command three cavalry divisions and accompanied by Lannes corps met up with Auffenberg near the village on the 9th of October. Initially Exelman commanded the assault but his first three attempts at proding the Austrians from their position failed. Lannes arrived with Oudunot's Grenadiers and made a flanking attack which in combination with the cavalry completely destroyed Auffenberg's column. This scenario is the full action starting with the French cavalry advancing on the Austrian outpost near Hohenreichen. Initially Affenberg did not believe a trooper's report of the French advance thus the Austrians will be fixed to begin the scenario releasing as the morning progresses. Note: the French dragoons may dismount at the player's choice. Use the Change Formation toolbar button to dismount or mount the dragoons. Also - though Nansouty was with Murat his division was not used and to keep the scenario somewhat balanced the 1st Cuirassier Division is left out of the battle. Intended to be played Head to Head. The Austrian player should avoid removing his force from the map to deny the French victory points until turn 30.

The only chance the Austrians have to win is to run and form a laager in the southern central part of the map. The French will eventually outnumber the Austrians 2 to 1, but the French infantry comes on late and if the Austrians plan for it the French infantry will not arrive in time to have too much influence on the battle. For the French to win, they have to destroy the Austrian force AND keep their own cavalry losses low.

Very boring battle for the Allies
