(What If, 86 Turns) By late August, General Pope was still needing a victory to ensure his position in Virginia and in Washington. For this purpose, he will personally lead the advance elements of his Army of Virginia through the gaps to Manassas and will seek battle with Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Lee wants to take the war north and out of Virginia. To do this, he must force a major battle with Pope and defeat his army in detail. Any mistake by either side will surely meet with severe consequences.

Typical CSA quality and unit number advantage versus the Union's big brigades and lots of guns.

Lot of marching and maneuvering to be done giving both sides a lot of options on where to engage.

A lot of marching involved. In combat however the Union forces were not up to much.

This scenario is awful from the Union side. The forces arrive at locations all over the map. The units arrive completely disorganized. At one entry hex, a brigade will arrive from 2nd Corps followed by 2 brigades from 3rd Corps which are each from a different division. And this goes on all throughout the scenario.

You will spend most of the first 40-50 turns just trying to get your command into good order.

Would not recommend.

This is a great game for the Operational minded player. Combat will be slow to develop and the first half of the game will be all maneuver as the 2 armies jockey for position and to try and consolidate their forces. If the Confederates can move fast they can catch the Union before they're assembled. The Union Army must play it's strong cards (cavalry and artillery) to maximum advantage here.

All objectives are located on the north end of the map, while the Confederate Army comes in evenly split between the north and the south, leading to long marches along easily bottle-necked routes. Complete lack of cavalry makes it hard to do any scouting, especially when facing an aggressive opponent who knows how to handle his mounted troops. I terminated this after 20 (or so) turns conceding a decisive victory. I do not recommend this scenario at all, and will not play it again.
