Badajoz - This rather lengthy 60 turn scenario starts immediately after the construction of the first parallel and prior to the initial Spanish sortie. The French siege of the Spanish-held fortress commenced January 1811, but prior to the arrival of Gazan's division on 3rd February the besieging force was not significantly stronger than the Spanish garrison. The scenario is long to enable the French player to conduct a preliminary bombardment prior to attempting to take the defences by storm and for the Spanish player to have opportunities for launching sorties. Despite the scenario's length, it may not necessarily take such a long time to play, since many turns may pass quickly just firing artillery rounds in preparation for an assault. The subsequent Spanish attempt at raising the siege resulting in the battle of Gebora on 19 February is covered in a separate scenario.
