Langannerie, 17km S of Caen, France: [Best played as Allied] In August 1944, the 2nd Canadian Corps was heavily involved in the push south from Caen. Operation Totalize was yet another plan to break out and link up with the Americans and trap the German Army in what was to become the Falaise Pocket. The plan called for a hole to be punched through the deep German defences along the road to Falaise. Then the 4th Canadian Armoured Division, deployed into two battlegroups and fighting its first engagement, was to exploit the breakthrough. As the operation unfolded, the attack by the 4th Armoured was ordered to be maintained through the night. As the "fog of war" came into play, one battlegroup, Force Worthington, lost its way as it moved eastward cross-country over a darkened landscape devoid of landmarks. Dawn found the Canadians deep in the German rear, but closing on Point 140, not their objective, Point 195 which was 5 km west. Worthington's tragic fight to the death ensued!

I loved it, except that some units remained fixed throughout the scenario. Cuts down on the fun.

A very one-sided game early. The Brits can counter pretty effectively once all their reinforcements show up, if they can survive the opening 6-8 turns. Multiple fixed units that don't play for the Germans is the only thing that saves the Brits from early annihilation here. Victory conditions are pretty skewed in favor of Germans here.
