(Hypothetical) Best played as Allies. SITUATION: Allied forces have recently captured Caen and are now moving north east to push the German lines further back. Recon suggests a German presence in the town of Belleville, possibly a batallion. Division HQ wants them uprooted and the town secured. MISSION: Move your battalion into Belleville, secure it, and neutralize the enemy. You'll only have access via the Cornaille River bridge. The Germans will be watching this entrance so be careful. Once across the shore, have a company secure the city park and move a second in to take the Nouvelle housing complex in the west. Your reserve company can then move to the city's southern edge to uproot remaining elements. Finally, secure the South West Heights. This could be dangerous as the approach leaves little cover. The big guns are reserved for the front so your men will have to go in without artillery support. If you hit any major resistance, radio for support. We have a paratrooper batallion that can be called in, however, today's winds will make a landing tough. Well, what you waiting for? Move out!!

No bridge to cross a major river. The Allies were initially set up facing the wrong direction. Later reinforcements were lost in the river due to drop areas being too close.
Attacking across a major river into full strength German defenders, including Mg 42 platoons, was suicide. Little supporting artillery, no air support. Without a bridge any unit on the road that crossed the river could not fire. It was like attacking into a tree shredder.
